Do not use lubricants on your Sprinklers

sprinkler damage by lubricants

One of the worst things you can do to an impact sprinkler is put a foreign substance or lubricant on it. Whether it is silicone, Teflon, Pipe dope, or WD-40 none of these are helpful in making a sprinkler work efficiently. These substances will break down the the part faster than normal wear and tear.

Some of the problems caused by lubricants on sprinkler parts are:

  • Dust and debris are attracted to the lubricant
  • Oil base forms on the washers
  • Friction causes the washers to wear out fast

Any way you look at it, the addition of a foreign lubricant on your sprinkler system causes you nothing but headaches. Eventually after the lubricant has done the damage to your system you will need repair work on some or all of your sprinkler system.
